Description

How do I come up with a compelling central idea for my writing and how do I stay on point? How can I be a better collaborator, offering and being able to receive and use feedback effectively?

These and other questions are answered in this seven-session workshop, which focuses on the most important area of grant proposals--the Specific Aims section--exploring ways to attract reviewers to the significance, innovation, and approach of a study, right from that very first page. The workshop also looks at ways of extending the unity and coherence of the grant's opening section to the entire proposal.

The primary text for the class is the participants’ own Specific Aims pages, which they revise through a collaborative process. Students are also welcome to participate by special permission of instructor if they are not currently writing a grant but are planning to do so or to assist in writing a grant in the future. For students intending to "workshop" their Specific Aims, please be prepared to submit them by 10/1/2010 or before.

Learning Objectives: By the end of this workshop, participants will have a Specific Aims section that excites and inspires, leading to a proposal that will do the same!  Participants will be prepared for and comfortable with the new formats for NIH grant proposals and will forge collaborative relationships with colleagues from departments and disciplines outside their own.

Sections:  This workshop meets every Thursday from 12:00-1:30, from October 28 – December 16, except November 25. Participants are required to attend all sessions.

Registration required. Please contact instructor, Peaches Udoma, to register at pudoma@tuftsmedicalcenter.org.
